There are basic items we all need in our closet. This list compiles the most basic of items for cooler weather with three looks behind each item. No two looks are identical, demonstrating the versatility of even the most basic of wardrobes. I’ll include at least one of the Essentials in each blog post, so you will be able to get the most out of each piece possible.
To the right you can see an example of how I style a look and give advice on items. There are tips on how to wear them as well as sizing suggestions and ways to wear it with other options.
How did I come up with the list of Essentials?
- Is it a classic piece? I looked for items that the style icons have worn and that have stood the test of time. I’ll always look up to Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana and Iris Apfel. Each created their own style and have become icons in the industry.
- Is there versatility in pairing? In keeping colors simple along with minimal patterns, these pieces can easily be thrown into any outfit. When you add patterns, it can be a bit more difficult to mix it in with everything else. Though personally, I’d also say go for it! Use this basic wardrobe as an end to what you need, or a jump start to creating your own personal style.
- Can nearly everyone wear this? Many of these items can be found by other retailers, and you can use this as a guide to what you want in a basic wardrobe. It’s important to me that everyone feels good in their clothes and can find accessible items. If you are ever on the hunt for a different size, length or fit- message me! I’d love to help you start your Essential wardrobe.
- Will these items stand the test of time? I’m a firm believer that quality is far more important than quantity. You’ll find suggestions on items for their care, as well as when to retire it and get a new one. Where to invest and where to save.
